Environmental Policy
Lighting Design and Solutions are aware of our responsibility to manage
our business to minimise the impact it has on the environment. We operate
in an environmentally sensitive way and operate within the Rexel Charter
for Sustainable Development.
We are committed to the implementation of the WEEE directive, which gives
consideration to the complete life-cycle of the lamps and fittings that
we supply.
The purpose of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) legislation
is to reuse, recycle and recover. With this in mind the lamp industry
manufacturers provide free recycling for lamps at the end of life by charging
a (WEEE) levy at the time of purchase, for all gas discharge lamps that
contain mercury.
This levy is a consistent non-profit amount throughout the supply chain,
hence it is shown as a separate line on an invoice which is issued by
our distribution channel (rates vary dependant on lamp type). Many incandescent
lamps carry zero (WEEE) levy as they do not contain mercury.
Fact: Just one fluorescent tube contains enough mercury to contaminate
up to 30,000 litres of water. |
